Cyber criminals are becoming more sophisticated at picking our virtual pockets and uncovering almost all our personal information available online- yet most of us remain woefully unprepared.
A 2016 survey, conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, highlighted that organizations rank cybercrime as the second most reported type of economic crime, up from fourth place. This is despite the fact that most cybercrimes go unreported.
This indicated the widespread growth of cybercrime. Online crime has moved way beyond the inquisitive teenage hacker who pushed boundaries. It now comprises elaborate worldwide syndicates that are well organized and use sophisticated tools. They steal personal data, passwords and other information, then use it to blackmail businesses or scam consumers. Or they might sell it on the black market, where others can use this information to steal identities and run up credit card charges.
TheBestVPN have in light of this growing threat, compiled a list of the 10 most notable cybercrimes, either by size or significance from around the world.
1. 50 Millions Credit Cards Data Stolen from Home Depot’s System (2014)
In 2014 retailer Home Depot’s system was breached, exposing data from over 50 million credit cards. The thieves used a vendor’s user name and password to get into the company’s computer network, then installed malware on its point-of-sale systems, which meant that consumers swiping their credit cards were literally handing over their data to the criminals. In other words, people were buying physical items from a real life store, but at the same time they ended up giving their credit card data to hackers.
2. Split a bill
On a night out with a group of friends, you’ve all ordered your meals and eaten to your heart’s content. Now it’s time to pay the bill. Rather than struggle to calculate the amount each person is going to pay, you can simply google ‘tip calculator’. You enter the cost of the bill and the number of people to pay for it. It’ll give you the cost for each person. If you want to add a tip for the waiter to the cost, you can include the percentage of the tip you want to give or you can just set the ‘tip %’ at 0% if you don’t want to give a tip
3. Filter your Gmail
Especially when using your Gmail to register or sign up to certain websites, you can add “+anything” to your email address, this will create a folder that all emails from that site will go to automatically. This will help you keep your Gmail in order and avoid irrelevant emails mixing up with the relevant ones. The format for this is your email+websitename@gmail.com e.g david.michael+kamdora@gmail.com.
But she also discusses her mom’s involvement in other ways: Her mom was her Brownie troop leader. Her mom was her team’s field hockey mom when Dru was a senior in high school. “She went with me to every field hockey camp, tryout, program that I ever had,” Dru writes, adding, “my sister and I were always her first priority.”

Thank you so much for putting this together Jeremy. Most of these seem like common sense but it is amazing how many times I see new employees having the worst days of their life because managers/leaders don’t want to be “bothered” with the new guy.
